Overview
This course provides a through introduction to the way modern pharmaceuticals (drugs) are discovered, developed, regulated, and marketed. It is intended to give the student an overview of how the pharmaceutical industry operates and the various functional roles of the people involved.

Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Describe how drugs are discovered using High Throughput Screening and other discovery platforms.
- Outline how drugs are developed and tested for safety and efficacy in vitro and in animals and humans.
- Discuss how drugs are regulated by the FDA during development, for marketing, and post-marketing.
- State the requirements for drug labelling and the policies which guide acceptable forms of drug advertisements.
- Described current trends that impact the way drugs are discovered and developed, including the impact of pharmacogenomics.
